About Me

Hi,

I'm Ben Malin, and this is my portfolio!

I am a web developer focused on the MERN Stack. While this stack incorporates back-end technologies, my passion lies in the front-end. When building on the front-end, I love the immediacy of seeing users interact with my apps.

Outside of web development, I watch and critique movies, which is a passion I'll soon be building into a podcast. When I'm not watching the latest critically acclaimed films, I enjoy building computers, tinkering with smart-home technology, and researching the cryptocurrency market.

CauseWay is a web app designed for non-profits to post their causes and volunteer opportunities and for individuals to sign up and contribute to the enrolled organizations through various types of work. I worked with two other developers in the creation of the app, with my primary focus being on the front-end component creation and design.

A React web app that allows users to search for cocktails and see their recipes as well as enter in ingredients to see what cocktails they can make. My primary focus was the front-end and creating the various components in the app while I split the action and reducer work with my partner developer.

Using a linked-list data structure and a spaced repetition algorithm, I worked with another developer to create a knowledge test on US Presidents. The more often users get questions correct, the less frequently they’re asked them. I focused on the front-end in creating the components and split the design work with my partner developer.

Oscars or Bust is the beginning stage of an outlet for my film critiquing hobby. I am in the preliminary stages of creating a podcast in which guests and I discuss and review the latest movies from critical and entertainment standpoints. This web page will soon become the central page for the podcast, and users will even be able to listen to the latest episodes right through the site. The first episode will be live within the first quarter of 2018.
